My name is Jared. This is my first blog post ever. I’m not sure where to start but, I figured that if I were to start somewhere – it should be about me, my father and our history. So here we go, Eurobean – A Little About Us
Oh just a brief note before we start: I’m not a professional writer. My punctuation is most likely incorrect in places. So, please if you see a spelling mistake, improper grammar or improper punctuation, please leave me a polite comment and I will try to learn from it. Thank you!
My father Gordon was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He has always been a doer, a go getter and a get it done right kind of guy… Ask anyone who knows him. He’s basically just hard working and diligent. He’s also and excellent father, motivator and role model with a great sense of humor and is one of the few people who can really give me a good laugh. Over the years he has had a few different careers, but the most important ones are: he was a Carpenter in the 80’s, a construction site supervisor for interior office spaces throughout the 90’s, owner and operator of a home inspection business in the 2000’s and 2010’s, and is currently part owner of a coffee shop in Kelowna. From all of these positions he’s acquired the most important attributes a person could associated to any successful entrepreneur.
For myself, and maybe I don’t give myself enough credit, but I feel like I am as much of a doer as my father was, or still is rather, but consider my self an individual who is not afraid of new challenges and change. I usually don’t hesitate to just jump into something new if it sounds reasonable me. Ambitious if you will. This could be a good thing and a bad thing as sometime jumping into something that you don’t know a lot about can be quite stressful. Regardless – I keep myself busy one way or another. My work career begins when I decided to apprentice as an electrician after high school in 2006, followed thereafter by working with my father in his home inspection business until 2018. I was also born and raised in Calgary. Grew up in the southwest in an outskirt community. It was nice because I could look out my back door and there would a field, a forest and the Rocky Mountains in the distance. My father and I have been working together for the past 15 years and are currently co-owning the same coffee shop that I mentioned earlier.
Since owning a coffee shop, we have learned a lot!!! From just basic skills of making coffee, routine tasks that need to get done on a daily basis, learning what it means to be an employer, scheduling, HR, customer satisfaction – all of these things add up to a large sum of long days, very early mornings and countless extra hours of work that we have had to put in to make it work out. That being said, I don’t believe we have made it yet. We are only 2 years in and are still learning tons and have yet to accomplish many the goals which we have set out for ourselves. One thing that I can tell you is that the business that we had written down on that initial business plan is not the same as what it turned out to be. For better or for worse – things change and so did our company.
My vision for the future blogs which you may see here are to describe for you as best that I can about what it is like to start a business, own and run a coffee shop, the ups, the downs and everything else that we have encountered over the past couple years. Hopefully from this, you can learn something. If there are any questions please don’t hesitate to drop a comment and I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner.
Thank you for reading.
